Evaluation

Evaluation of the assignment overall:

My initial concepts for this assignment were very different to the final product. My colour scheme that I originally decided on was blue and green as most food banks that I researched were blue and green. However, after actually executing the plans, I realised that I didn’t like the blue and green colour scheme and decided on a black, red and orange colour scheme.

My research really helped me. I constantly referred back to the Harrow foodbank as it was mainly what I wanted in my website and app. I also researched lots of different radio adverts to get a good concept on how radio ads are executed and do my best to make a professional radio ad.

I aimed my food bank at working class adults. Stereo typically, single parents or young parents who are struggling. However, after researching food banks, I realised that anyone can find themselves having to rely on food banks at any time. Bearing this in mind, I didn’t want to target my food bank to one specific group of people. I want everyone to be welcomed in. Anyone who needs it can use it.

I mainly attracted my audience by making my website very simplistic. Like I mentioned before, I wanted everyone to feel welcome to my food bank so I made a website, app and radio advert that caters to everyone’s needs. A simplistic website and app that show you how to get help and give help. That’s the main way I think I attracted my target audience.

I have learnt about the difficulties in producing a radio advert. You have to consider the tone of voice and the language used as you can’t rely on visuals to carry you through. Another thing I learnt was the how hard it is to understand coding in Dreamweaver. You have to make sure your code is perfect to avoid any errors on the live website.

My final product was nothing like I imagined it to be. Like I said before, my original colour scheme was blue and green. I also planned for my website have original pictures in the background. It was a lot harder than I thought to produce all three things on different media platforms in time for the deadline.

Individual evaluations:

Radio Advert Evaluation:

When creating my radio ad, I had to consider the differences between a radio advert and a TV advert. TV adverts are at an advantage as they are visual so they essentially have the upper hand. A TV ad wouldn’t even need sound to still be effective. However, with a radio advert relies solely on the audio. You have to consider the emotion and tone of the voice. You have to bear in mind the backing track and if it helps convey the same emotion. You also have to think of the volume of the backing track and the voiceover to make sure that neither is being overpowered by the other. We used a Roland R-05 Wave/MP3 recorder and a Rode NTG-2 Microphone to record our audio. We recorded in a sound proof booth and used an SD card and SD card reader to put the audio on to the computer so we could then edit it using Adobe Audition CC 2018. I was originally going to use my IPhone to record but I wanted a professional finish so I used proper equipment. I am quite happy with how my radio advert turned out. The music was copyright free music but I could have produced my own track on the piano and uploaded that to make it even more original. The voiceover was a bit too quiet and the tone of voice wasn’t exactly what I was going for. My overall I am happy with my radio advert and think it is quite professional.

Website evaluation:

The production of my website was probably one of my favourite parts of the assignment. I wanted the layout to be very simple and easy to navigate your way around it. The background is dark grey and the writing is white so you can clearly read the writing. My buttons lead you to the pages stated and there are various links on the webpages and at the bottom of the website that will help you in having an enjoyable and informative time looking at the website. I used research taken from websites such the Harrow foodbank and Trussell trust to inspire my website. Overall, I am really proud of my website. I think it resembles the basic layout of a good website and had potential to be added to and gradually made better. However, for a first attempt and for someone who has never used Dreamweaver before, I think it turned out really well.

App Evaluation:

My app was the hardest part of the assignment for me. I produced my app on InDesign. I used InDesign in the last assignment but I still really struggled with it. Building the foundation on the app wasn’t too bad, I mainly struggled with the interactive element and making the buttons link the various pages. The main app I referred back to was the Stratford Foodbank app as their design was simple and easy to navigate. Overall, I think my app does it job but it could have been a lot more refined. The buttons don’t work as well as they could and the content on the pages could be reduced or spread over two pages so it is easier to read. The main thing I would have changed in my app was to add a button on each page that takes you back to the home page to create fluidity and ease in navigation.
